Shamrock Thoroughbreds are offering an opportunity to become involved in the fun and enjoyment of racehorse ownership through the syndication of Wizard of Odds.
Wizard of Odds is a 2yo gelding by first season sire Arizona out of Starlight Symphony and this progressive type is currently rated 81. He is a lightly raced horse with only 3 career starts to date and produced a career best effort on his last start when winning a Down Royal maiden over 7 furlongs on good ground. The form of that race has worked out particularly well with the 3rd horse Heishybrid winning a Leopardstown maiden over 7 furlongs on his next start.
“It is very rare that I would have the opportunity to purchase a 2yo maiden winner and he was great value for money. He vetted very well and is a good looking horse with plenty of size and strength. He looks like he will progress through the remainder of his 2yo campaign and into next year. He has been recently castrated and is having a break at the moment before preparing for a nursery handicap at Dundalk in October. He could develop into a Madrid Handicap type horse next Spring and he looks to have a big future ahead of him. He will give his new shareholders a lot of fun along the way.”, Stephen Thorne, Managing Director of Shamrock Thoroughbreds.
The main reason for purchasing a share in Wizard of Odds is to get involved with a high class performer who has the ability to win a valuable Premier Handicap and could develop into a Stakes performer next season.
The horse will go into training with Jack Davison in Dunboyne, Co. Meath who has a very good strike rate on the flat and has trained many good
horses in recent seasons such as Mooneista and She’s Quality. This will be a temporary trainer arrangement until syndicate manager Stephen Thorne is granted his own trainers’ license in early October 2024.
The syndicate will be divided into 20 shares of 5% each and each shareholder can buy as many shares up to a maximum of 30% or 6 shares. Wizard of Odds will race under the name of Shamrock Thoroughbreds and a WhatsApp Group will be setup to enhance communication purposes between the syndicate manager Stephen Thorne and each of the 20 shareholders.
The plan with Wizard of Odds is to give him a short break with the aim of putting him back into full training in early September and preparing him for a nursery handicap at Dundalk in mid October. This horse has proven himself to handle good ground so he should have no issue handling the polytrack surface at Dundalk. He will be suited to the 7f and mile conditions races at Dundalk early next year before targeting the Madrid Handicap on the opening weekend of the Irish Flat campaign next year.
The cost of purchase for each 5% share is €3,250. This includes the sales purchase price, 5% agent commission, 4.8% VAT, vettings/ blood analysis completed and transport to Jack Davison Racing.
The total training fees, mortality insurance for 12 months, veterinary fees and HRI account funds for a 5% share until 1st August 2025 is €1,400 euros and those costs are listed below.
Each shareholder will receive a statement of accounts at the end of the 12-month term and any prizemoney earned will be divided among each shareholder at the end of the term, the 1st August 2025.
There will be a Shareholder’s discussion in July 2025 to decide if the horse is sold via public auction or put back into training for another 6 or 12-month period.
